See The World With Online Travel Agents

Do you remember the days when the Internet was in its infancy and when many people were afraid to shop online? It certainly seems strange to look back, given the way that Internet shopping has taken off in recent years.
We now think of it as being a perfectly normal thing to do a vast amount of shopping in this way. So what’s changed in the past few years?
There are a number of factors at play here. Security was clearly a key concern in those early days. Many of us worried about handing over our credit card details via the Internet. We wondered whether we might leave ourselves exposed to fraud and identity theft.
Although such concerns have not completely disappeared, there’s no doubt that many of us have grown in confidence. We shopped online regularly and realised that the process is just as secure as handing over our credit card in a traditional shop.
What sort of things are we buying online? The answer seems to be that we are prepared to purchase just about anything. In the early days, people tended to by items that had a relatively low value. The likes of Amazon were able to benefit from this trend.
Such businesses realise that we were happy to buy books and CDs online. But it soon became clear that we were happy to spend even more money online. Before long, we are buying everything from furniture to holidays.
Maybe you’ve booked a holiday in this way yourself? If not, you may well have missed out on some great deals. What many people like about making travel arrangements via the Internet is that they have the ability to do an enormous amount of research from their own homes.
This means that you can find out a lot about a particular resort, hotel or tourist destination. In a sense, what the Internet allows you to do is to try and avoid some of the worst horrors that were once associated with making travel bookings.
If you think about how you used to make your travel arrangements, you can see how much things have really improved. You may once have relied on traditional travel agents. In which case, you were probably heavily reliant on holiday brochures.
Now that you look back, you can see just how little information was contained in such brochures. These days, you have access to far more information, allowing you to make more informed holiday booking decisions and hence get better deals.
That’s why an increasing number of people choose to make their travel arrangements via Internet travel agents.

Penny Pinchers Guide To Grabbing Cheap Airline Tickets

Penny Pinchers Guide To Grabbing Cheap Airline Tickets

It was my very first time travelling out of the UK and I wanted to see some of Europe. I think this is important so that I can boast to my children that I have seen a bit of the world even though it is just Europe. Step one; it seemed to me was to get as a cheap flight to Europe. The trouble was however in getting my airfares to come down from the high heavens in terms of price. I struggled to rearrange my budget and accommodate the scary costs of the airline tickets and realize my goal of having cheap holidays. I was really running scared and asking myself how on earth I was going to make it out of England and through just two countries with the kind of prices I was seeing. A friend suggested that I focus on getting cheap airline tickets. Really? I wanted to know what part of England I had to stand to get such cheapest flights rain to fall on me. Luckily for me, she is the patient type and took my sarcasm in good faith.
According to her, getting cheap flights is much easier than I imagine. Imagine? I didn’t even think it possible. Okay, where do I start from? I wanted to know. She wanted to know if I preferred to travel in premium class. Certainly not. In comfort, yes but except the first class tickets are free, cut that out. Okay, I she advised me to explore the option of travelling via an alternative route. It works this way she explained. I could just fly into Spain and from there to Italy on a low cost airline instead of taking an expensive flight direct into Italy. Hmmm…wouldn’t have occurred to me in a thousand years. Using cheapest airfare airlines as connecting flights can save a lot of money she added.
She wanted to know where I wanted to visit in Europe. Well, I had Spain, Greece, France and Italy penciled down. Well since I was not looking for cheap flights to Dubai, why not check the foreign websites of the airlines I wish to use for cheaper fares particularly as those countries have currencies weaker than the pound sterling? That way I get to compare flight price. She had provided another thought that would not occurred to me. She had saved loads of money that way. She simply booked her flight on the foreign counterparts of the country she intended to visit.
Okay, I had a year of school to go right? I answered in the affirmative (as she didn’t know, after all we were classmates). Students she informed me, have discounts on airlines and stuff like that. She directed me to STA Travels for more inquiries. She had personally cashed in on this discounts on many occasions by simply tendering her students ID Card. Imagine that! And mine has been just a piece of plastic in my pocket all this while. Wow, now I can compare holidays with my better traveled friends.
Last point she made was to inform me to watch the time I decide to travel. Since I just wanted to travel and get to know places, it was not important that I go in the peak period. Why not just compare cheap flights, go in the off-peak period and get the lower prices? Wow! Did I need any more prompting? Europe, here I come.

Details Concerning New Runway Delay Rule

Details Concerning New Runway Delay Rule

There remains an exception whereby planes can sit on a runway for over three hours without being penalized.  The exception occurs when a pilot decides, with input from air traffic control, that it is not safe for the plane to move.  International airlines are not bound to follow the three hour delay rule, even when taking off from U.S. airports.

The following answers common questions concerning this new regulation:

  • As soon as a plane’s cabin door closes the clock starts ticking on the three hour limit.
  • As a plane starts to approach the three hour mark it is up to the pilot whether he wants to return to the gate.  The clock only stops ticking once the passengers are free to exit the plane.  US Airways has informed its pilots to return to the gate after 2 and ? hours unless takeoff is imminent.  Continental is taking a more cautious approach asking it pilots to return to the gate after just two hours.
  • While passengers are sitting on a runway the airlines are required to provide passengers with food and water.  Snacks, such as pretzels, qualify as food and drinks such a bottled water are expected.  Planes are also supposed to keep bathrooms in working order.
  • Airlines can by themselves decide to cancel flights to avoid violating the three hour rule.

If your flight is cancelled, the airline’s responsibilities to its passengers depend on why the flight was cancelled.  If the cancellation was due to equipment malfunction then the airline is supposed to rebook you on a flight, even if it has to use a different airline, within four hours of the original departure time, if possible.  However, if the problem is due to something outside the airline’s control, such as bad weather, the airline has no responsibility other than to place you on whatever future flight it has that has open seats.

Last year (prior to the maximum three hour runway rule) 903 flights were delayed over three hours, which equates to one for every 7,143 flights that departed.

DONE YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE TRAVELING?

When planning a trip, it is advisable to spend some time doing research even if you are booking through a Travel Agent. This research could save you a significant amount of money and perhaps prevent a miserable stay in a sub-standard hotel.
Many people have moved away from using Travel Agents. This is understandable due to the availability of cheap fares and hotel rooms through the internet. However, it is wise to consider the benefits of utilizing a professional particularly when proposing to visit somewhere that you haven’t previously been. Some of the advantages of using a Travel Agent are gaining the benefit of their expertise, experience, personal service, ability and indeed the obligation to clarify and inform you of details in the fine print which you may miss if booking on your own account, their up to date knowledge of the latest deals and their ability to distill and interpret information to hopefully offer you the best value deal for your trip.
With that said, it is still prudent to conduct your own research. The Travel Agent can provide suggestions about a range of airlines you could use and different fares and advise on hotels in good areas within budget guidelines. At this point you have some great information to work off. You have not had to start from scratch. You have an idea as to which are the better priced airlines and the areas you should look at staying taking into account what you’re looking to do in a particular place. Now you can see if there are internet deals that may beat the air fares the Travel Agent has quoted you. In many cases these days, the Travel Agency will do what they can to equal or beat whatever publicized deal is out there. It is a very competitive industry. In the cases of hotels, many of the chains as well as some independents are claiming to have the best internet deals on their own sites. This is of benefit to both the consumer as well as the hotel. They don’t have to pay commission to a third party and you are dealing directly with the establishment that you are proposing to stay with who can answer any queries that you may have regarding elements of your accommodation as well as possibly saving money. You will also find that when booking direct off the hotel website that you may be offered upgrades or specials not available anywhere else.
The internet is also a great and up to date resource which can allow you to read reviews from consumers regarding airlines, hotels, sightseeing trips and just about anything that you can think of. This can be invaluable.  you will find reviews on just about any hotel in the world. Many of the reviews provide excellent information about the hotel rooms, restaurants, attitude of the staff, cleanliness, activities and pool if they have one.
Don’t underestimate the value of a good Travel Agent but be prepared to put in some time to conduct your own research. The worst you could do is add to the excitement of planning for a trip and maybe you’ll even save yourself some money!

A Brief Guide to Packing for a Trip

A Brief Guide to Packing for a Trip

Before you carry that overloaded suitcase to the car, imagine how much heavier it is going to feel when you have to lug it through the airport terminal. Straining your back just so you can have three or four extra dress shirts to choose from is not worth the pain. Odds are that the majority of travelers who have difficulty with their luggage have over packed.

The lines to get through security and to the baggage claim are long enough. The effort to move your luggage across the airport as well as the additional stress of worrying if the oversized, over packed bag will make the flight and meet you at your destination can not be justified.

Be sure to inspect your bags on order to make sure that you are not bringing anything along that you do not need. If you find an item that you could live without for this trip, take it out. That extra pair of shoes will be in your closet waiting for you when you return. You will most likely still have to check your baggage when you arrive at the airport, but at least it will not be as heavy as it was and you can rest easier knowing that everything in your bags is essential.

Going with as small and as light a bag as possible, is the best place to start when packing for a trip. The ease of carrying a small, lightweight bag through the airport, up and down hotel stairs, or to and from your rental car is a great example of the benefits of being thrifty with your luggage.

On an airplane you can put a small bag under your seat in some cases (each airline has its own policies on whether bags can be stored underneath your seta or not). However, even if you cannot store your bag under your seat, it can be stored in the overhead compartment above your seat or aisle. Having the assurance of knowing your bag is onboard with you eliminates worries over baggage being lost by baggage handlers. This is another reason to use a smaller bag, if possible, to store your belongings.

Still, the question remains: How do you travel lighter in order to take advantage of these benefits and not arrive at your destination without needed items? The simplest answer is to plan your packing with as much attention to detail as when you plan the rest of your trip.

Begin by packing the most important items, such as prescription medication. However, it’s a good idea to buy a small pill dispenser and place your medication in them for the days you will be on your trip, plus an extra day just in case you are delayed by a day in returning home. This takes up much less room in a bag than full bottles of medication or vitamins. If you are unexpectedly delayed at your destination for a longer than anticipated period of time, you can always call your doctor and request that he or she call in a prescription to a pharmacy close to where you are staying.

Par down how much clothing you are taking with you as these are bulky, heavy items. 3 pairs of jeans, or pants, one skirt or shorts, 3 shirts, 1 set of pajamas, 3 pairs of socks and 4 pairs of underwear will last you 7 days and you can wash your clothes if you will be staying away longer. Wear a pair of jeans that day and air them out that night and wear them again the next day. Rotating your shirts will give you a new look every day. Socks and underwear can be worn inside and out for two days of wear. Shorts could be worn for outdoor recreation to save your jeans for dining and attending indoor events. A skirt could work in the same way or be worn home the last day of your trip.

Hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, denture brush, denture cleaner, hairbrush, and soap bars. And items like curling irons and hair dryers can take up a lot of room in your bag when you take them in their full-sized versions. You can scale hygiene products down in size by putting them in travel size containers. Many hotels provide free shampoo, conditioner, and soap for their guests, so you may not need to take much of these products with you. Consider too that many mid-priced, and higher priced hotels provide hair dryers in-room for guests to use. Ask about this when you make your reservations and you might find that you can leave your bulky hair dryer at home. If you must take items such a these because the hotel doesn’t provide them, buy them the travel size versions of them to keep them from overloading your bag.

Taking excess money and valuable jewelry with you is never recommended. Hop online and find other tips for traveling lighter.
